If you’ve never had your home professionally washed, the difference can be surprising. Dirt, mildew, and algae build up so gradually that most homeowners don’t realize how dull their exterior has become until they see the before-and-after side by side. Knowing what happens before, during, and after a house washing service helps you plan ahead, set realistic expectations, and get the most out of every visit.
From Grimy to Gleaming: How a Professional House Wash Works
Before the work begins, a good crew walks the property to check siding material, problem areas, and anything that needs protecting. Plants and landscaping are rinsed down, outdoor furniture is moved, and windows and doors are checked so water and detergent go only where they should.
During the wash, most homes are cleaned with soft washing rather than high pressure. Biodegradable detergents are applied at low pressure to break down mold, mildew, and algae on siding, soffits, and fascia, then rinsed away gently. This kills organic growth at the root instead of just knocking it off the surface.
The low-pressure approach behind soft washing in St. Augustine is what makes such a dramatic before-and-after possible without risking damage to siding or paint.
The after is where the results really show. Siding that looked gray or streaked returns to its original color, green patches on shaded walls disappear, and trim looks crisp again. Many homeowners say it looks like a fresh coat of paint, without the cost of repainting.
The benefits last well beyond the day of service. Removing organic growth protects paint and siding from the moisture damage it causes, and in St. Augustine’s humid climate, most homes stay clean for months before needing another wash. Scheduling once or twice a year keeps that just-washed look from fading.
Most homeowners are also surprised by how quick and low-hassle the process is. A typical single-family home takes just a few hours, you don’t need to be home for the whole visit, and the surfaces dry quickly, so there’s no lingering mess or downtime once the crew wraps up for the day.
Finally, a reputable company finishes with a walkthrough so you can see the results for yourself and point out anything that needs a second look before the crew packs up.
