getaway or a full week of island exploring, hopping behind the wheel (or handlebars) is one of the easiest ways to see everything at your own pace. If it’s your first time booking a golf cart rental in Key West or scooter rental, here’s exactly what to expect, from reservation to return.
Before You Book
The first step is deciding what kind of ride fits your trip. If you’re traveling with family or a small group, a golf cart for rent is usually the way to go — most seat four to six people comfortably, so everyone can pile in together instead of splitting up. Traveling solo, as a couple, or just want something quick and nimble for zipping between stops? A scooter for rent might be the better fit.
Once you know what you need, book online in advance. Same-day reservations are often available, but booking ahead guarantees you get the option (and time slot) you want, especially during busy travel seasons. Just keep in mind that online bookings typically need about an hour to process, so plan your pickup time accordingly.
Before you head out, make sure you’ve got a valid driver’s license, a credit card, and proof of car insurance on hand — these are standard requirements for any golf carts for rent or golf cart rental service. If you’re renting a scooter, be prepared for a quick safety check ride with staff before you’re cleared to go; it’s a simple formality that only takes a few minutes and ensures you’re comfortable handling it before hitting the road.
Age requirements matter too. Golf cart renters typically need to be at least 25, while scooter renters need to be 21. And if you’ve got kids along for the ride, anyone 16 and under is required to wear a helmet on a scooter, so pack that into your planning if you’re traveling with teens.
One more thing worth knowing before you book: skip the alcohol until after your ride is over. Rental companies take sobriety behind the wheel seriously, and showing up impaired means you won’t be renting anything that day.
Ready, Set, Ride
Renting a golf cart or scooter for the first time doesn’t have to be complicated. Know what you need, come prepared with the right documents, and follow a few simple rules, and you’ll be cruising around with the wind in your hair in no time. Once you’ve done it once, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try it sooner — it’s hands-down one of the most fun and memorable ways to experience a new destination.
